U.S. Rep. Ed Perlmutter (CO-07) issued the following statement regarding the expected confirmation of Judge Brett Kavanaugh to the U.S. Supreme Court:

"The Supreme Court is one of our country's most sacred and highly-regarded institutions, partly because historically it has been one of the less partisan bodies in U.S. government. But the confirmation process of Judge Kavanaugh has interjected politics into the Supreme Court like our country has never seen before.

"Confirming lifetime appointments to the highest court in the land is one of the most important responsibilities of the U.S. Senate and should always be treated with the seriousness and respect it deserves. Unfortunately, Judge Kavanaugh's nomination has put a blemish on this process.

"Early on, I voiced concerns about Judge Kavanaugh's record on women's rights, LGBT equality, Citizens United, immigration laws, and consumer privacy. But now I'm convinced more than ever Judge Kavanaugh lacks the judgement and temperament to serve on the U.S. Supreme Court.

"Furthermore, the President and his allies in the Senate have shamefully mocked the women who bravely came forward with credible charges against Judge Kavanaugh which is an insult to every woman who has ever been a victim of sexual assault."
